Addressing Social Isolation & Loneliness faced by Cardiff Residents following the outbreak of Covid-19

To consider how the covid-19 pandemic has heightened social isolation and loneliness for Cardiff citizens aged 18+. Assessing Cardiff Council’s role in addressing the issue and how the council is working with partners such as the Welsh Government, charities and religious communities in response to the challenges. During the meeting Committee Members will hear from a range of external participants on how demographics have been affected and the challenges faced. This scrutiny will be split into the following parts:

  • An Overview of how the Council has Responded to the Issue of Social Isolation and Loneliness Following the Pandemic Outbreak (4:40pm)

The Cabinet Member for Social Care Health & Well-being and the Cabinet Member for Communities & Housing supported by officers from the People & Communities Directorate to brief the Committee on the how the council is addressing the issue and answer any questions raised by the Committee.

  • Evidence Session with the Welsh Government (5:00pm)

For Members to receive an update on Welsh Government policy and to understand how the Welsh Government and Council work together on this issue.

  • Evidence Session with British Red Cross (5:15pm)

For Members to receive information on how individuals have been impacted and the challenges the organisation faces and input into how local authorities can work in partnership with such organisations.

  • Evidence Session with Project Hope (5:30pm)

For Members to receive information on how young adults (those aged 18 plus) have been impacted and the challenges they face.

  • Evidence Session with Age Connects Cardiff & Vale (5:45pm)

For Members to receive information on how the older demographic have been impacted and the challenges they face and input into how local authorities can work in partnership with such organisations.

  • Evidence Session with Religious Communities Representatives (6:00pm)

For Members to receive information on how certain religious communities (Church in Wales and Roman Catholic) have been impacted and the challenges they face.

  • Closing Remarks/Reflection (6:15pm)

To provide the council’s executive and committee members with an opportunity for reflection and any further remarks having heard evidence from the external participants
