Replacement of the Recycling and Refuse Collection Fleet

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: Yes

An initial procurement exercise carried out in 2020 and several vehicles were purchased to replace a number of the aged waste collection vehicles originally procured in 2013.

The exercise verified market prices and confirmed the best value approach is to continue with purchasing of vehicles to replace the existing vehicle fleet with the interim hire of increased vehicle numbers required for four day working.

A two-year replacement program is required to deliver bespoke vehicle types aligned with the Councils waste and recycling collection methodology. The anticipated value of the program is £9.7m.

A two-year program allows the Council to rationalise vehicle numbers required for four day working and opportunities to source match funding to build on current success in replacing diesel vehicles with electric alternatives

RESOLVED: that the direct award to Dennis Eagle off a framework for the phased purchasing of a new recycling and refuse collection fleet over a two-year period with a value estimated at £9.7Mbe approved
