Purchase of suitable residential properties from the open market, to increase the Council's provision of larger family homes for social tenancies across Cardiff.

Decision:

The Appendix to this report is not for publication as it contains exempt information of the description in Paragraph 14 of Part 4 and Paragraph 21 of Part 5 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972

Agreed – that the Council continue with the purchase of relevant properties from the market up to a combined value as stated in Appendix 1.

Reasons for the decision:

To enable Communities & Housing to continue to purchase suitable, properties and to retain them within the Council’s housing stock, to increase the number of family houses and flats available to let at a social rent level using the council’s allocations process. The Council has a very high demand for 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and ground floor flats across all areas of the city but very little availability. The purchase of properties from the open market will increase our housing stock, helping to achieve our target of 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
