Issue details

To update Members on the latest position with regard to potential proposals to construct a Tidal Lagoon between Cardiff and Newport. The Report will reference the Government independent Commission Report (Hendry Review) on the potential role of tidal power in the UK (due to report early November). If the conclusions of this report are positive with regard to tidal power, it is anticipated that Tidal Lagoon Power will submit proposals for a lagoon extending some 22km into the estuary between Cardiff and Newport. This would be a project of international significance. The report would therefore outline the application/planning process along with potential pros and cons, and highlight the difficulties of reaching firm conclusions ahead of the detailed assessment process and with insufficient supporting information currently being in place.
