Issue details

Cardiff District Heat Network

The City has a number of renewable and/or waste heat sources, including the Trident Park Energy from Waste Plant, a natural ground heat resource, and other industrial waste heat opportunities.

A detailed feasibility study has been completed to identify the short, medium and long term opportunities to exploit these as a low carbon, reliable source of heat for the City. The study has been grant funded by Welsh Government and Central Government’s “Heat Network Delivery Unit”.

The work has delivered a detailed business case for a network extending from Tident Park, through the Bay and other key development areas around Dumballs Rd and Callaghan Square, and reaching major users in the south east of the City Centre.

The final proposal includes a two phased development approach with the first stage reaching to areas south of Central Station.

Grant and other funding support will be required to deliver this more costly start-up phase.
