Prosiect Gwyrdd Joint Committee

Purpose of committee

Prosiect Gwyrdd is a partnership between Caerphilly Borough County Council, The County Council of the City and County of Cardiff, Monmouthshire County Council, Newport Council and Vale of Glamorgan Council.  The combined municipal waste of the five authorities makes up 40% of the total municipal waste of Wales. Prosiect Gwyrdd is committed to looking for the best environmental, cost effective and practical solution for waste after recycling and composting has been maximised in each area.

All authorities are committed to recycling and composting and meeting the challenging targets ahead of us. The Welsh Assembly Government has outlined a 70% recycling and composting rate by 2025, and each authority is striving to meet this target.

The Joint Committee is made up of two Cabinet or Executive Members from each authority. Their role under the first Joint Working Agreement (JWA1) was the decision making body for the procurement process. Following Full Council approval of the recommendation of Viridor as the Preferred Bidder and the approval of the Joint Working Agreement 2 (JWA2), the Joint Committee has now taken up their role through the transitional stage of the project until the contract begins on April 1st 2016.

Joint Committee meetings are public meetings and the public are welcome to attend. Public involvement will operate under the Committees’ agreed rules of engagement to ensure that commercial information is secure at all times.

The Prosiect Gwyrdd website is administered by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
