Notice of Motion

This Council expresses deep concern about the appalling state of the surfaces of Cardiff’s roads and pavements, and notes that these problems affect both urban and rural parts of the city.

This Council notes that the previous Liberal Democrat-led administration introduced a 3 year Highways Asset Management Plan worth £20 million in 2012, resurfacing roads and pavements across our city. In contrast the 2015/16 budget included approximately £8 million for highway improvements over the next 3 years, but cut back street cleaning, weed removal and grass cutting, undermining the infrastructure of our city.

The Council notes the South Wales Echo article of 4th August, 2016 revealing the short list of roads to be repaired this year, with some wards having no resurfacing work at all.

This Council therefore calls upon the Cabinet to look to bring forward a bold infrastructure plan in next year’s budget to bring the city’s roads up to the standard of a modern international city.
