RESOLVED:thatthe approach to implementing the homelessness legislation contained within the Housing Wales Act 2014 as outlined in the report be approved with effect from 27^th April 2015.

Cabinet was advised that Part 2 of the Housing Wales Act 2014 would come into force on 27^th April 2015 setting out the duties of local authorities to assist those facing homelessness.  The new legislation would require local authorities to do more to help households to prevent homelessness and to find alternative accommodation and would allow local authorities to use the private rented sector to discharge its homeless duties. The report outlined the approach being taken to comply with the requirements of the Housing Wales Act 2014 with regard to homelessness and sought agreement for the way forward in relation to the use of private rented properties in meeting the Council’s homelessness duty and the approach for households who have made themselves intentionally homeless.
