Fields In Trust, formerly the National Playing Fields Association have, in partnership with the British Legion developed a UK wide initiative to commemorate World War I and to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in conflict. The initiative calls on landowners to participate by dedicating recreational spaces, which contain a war memorial as Centenary Fields through a non-charitable deed. The report approval to dedicate Alexandra Gardens in the Cathays ward and Grange Gardens in the Grangetown ward will be sought.

RESOLVED: that

1)            the dedication of the sites referred to in the report be approved in principle and subject to consultation.

2)            Authority be delegated to the Director of Economic Development to progress the consultation process with stakeholders and local ward members in order to finalise the proposed disposal details, prior to any advertisement.

3)            the proposed disposal of the sites indicated in the report be advertised in accordance with the relevant section of the Local Government Act 1972 and that the outcomes be reported back to a future meeting.
